"There are many ways of dealing with your pain and perhaps the most tempting of them all is to forget about it, to hide it not just from the world, but also from yourself. It is the way of the stoic, the stiff upper lip. The rule is not to let yourself feel it anymore than you can help, not to trust anybody with the truth of how it hurts, and maybe most of all not to talk about it, certainly not outside of the family and eventually not even there, not even to yourself."
